Church Coordinators Meeting - January 19 6 pm at St. Philip Lutheran Love
INC's church ministry coordinators gathered January 19, 2012 for a
simple soup and salad dinner to explore the opportunities we have for
ministry together and upcoming Love INC opportunities. Two major thrusts for Love INC in this Winter Quarter
are "Love and All That Jazz," our winter concert on February 11 and the
many opportunities that will present themselves as Love INC moves
forward with the Thrift Shop.
Christmas Meal Delivery December 23 Love INC was the recipient of Whole Food's Grab and Give meal program December 16-30 which allowed us to deliver meals to clients whose resources were stretched durint this holiday season. Volunteers sorted and divided and driver took the meals to 20 of our client families. In addition meals were prepared for students who are considered homeless in South Jefferson County Schools. January 6 offers another opportunity to be involved.
Youth in Action: Understanding Poverty and Homelessness - Responding to the Need October 29, 2011 - Shea Stadium Love INC hosted an overnight experience, inspite of cold and wind, for 18 youth groups and over 280 students who learned about poverty and homelessness in local public schools and in our community. They assembled survival kits for the homeless and food boxes for local church food banks and made sandwiches to be handed out the next day. They enjoyed worship bands, rapped with music on the soccer field, ate soup in a soup line and then braved the elements in a temporary tent city on field of Shea Stadium. Many thanks to the sponsors: Sylvan Learning Center, Highlands Ranch: Trent Wearner Golf, Junior Golf Instruction; ImageFIRST; Medical Linens; American Family Insurance, Kim Barber Agency; Vienna Beef; Whole Foods Highlands Ranch; Safeway, Highlands Ranch; Einstein Bagels, Broadway/Highlands Ranch Parkway; Sunny D; BellCo Credit Union; Chick Fila: Lamars Donuts; Highlans Ranch Metro District: Starbucks, Lucent/Santa Fe
Love INC MINI Garage Sale- Raises $1,000 Funds dedicated toward the opening of a Thrift Shop. Friends of Love INC held a garage sale at the Nita and Randy Dunn's August 25 and 26, 2011. Thanks to the volunteers who helped. It's our hope to host several Mini-Sales to attract volunteers that enjoy retail and sales and to help raise funds to open a Love INC Thrift Shop soon. Duck Race (rubber) at Western Welcome Week Aug 14 -- A great event! Love INC partnered with the Sunrise Rotary in Littleton to host this year's duck race at Sterne Park. It was a great success that resulted in the purchase of over 1700 pink, blue and yellow ducks that floated down Littles Creek in Sterne Park on August 14. Around 200 gathered for the event and most were present for awards. Thanks to Bill LaRock, Love INC's chairman, for the event.
Financial/Budget Counselors met June 22, 2011 Pati Wilkins, coordinator, and Steve Lucas shared our improved design for working with clients and church groups while utilizing our award winning program, "Managing Your Money." Church volunteers attended the meeting and had meaningful dialogue on ways to engage and help clients learn to better manage the resources available to them. Even when income is limited and expenses are great, planning a budget and taking a realistic view by putting it on paper can bring hope. For additional information contact Love INC to participate or to serve.
Denver Homeless Awareness Tour
Led by Randle Loeb, Homeless Advocate March 18, 2011 It was a cool morning and limited parking as 36 Love INC friends joined in on a journey of hope with Randle. Toy Ministry and Toy Shop - Served 170 Children Love INC has identified a gap in services this year for Littleton parents as they approached Christmas. Love INC collected toys for a Toy Shop that was held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, December 15, 2010. and Love INC partnered with the Arapahoe Santa Shop in 2011 for younger children and then held a Teen Gift Ghop at Deer Creek Community Church December 9 2011
Love INC clients will selected toys for their children, enjoyed refreshments and teens wrapped their gits. The following Saturday, clients of Haven's Hope were treated at Faith Community Church to a shower of wrapped gifts selected especially for their children. Christmas was much brighter for these families and Love INC volunteers reported incredible joy in bringing this to the clients.
Volunteers coordinated with clients, donated gifts, set up the event, greeted clients, provided hospitality, wrapped gifts, cleaned up and then several delivered gifts to clients who weren't able to get to the event!

Understanding Poverty Workshop - October 23, 2010 -- GREAT TURNOUT! 40 participants gathered for this workshop at Faith Community Church led by Kathy King and Lynn Frost of Jefferson County Human Services. By exploring material from "Bridges out of Poverty" and "A Framework for Understanding Poverty" by Dr. Ruby Payne, all who attended grew in our perspective. Thanks to Haven's Hope and Faith Community Church for partnering in this venture.
Life changing Night Out On the Street, Dec. 4, 2010 -- Homelessness Awareness Rev. Doug McKinney, Executive Director, joined others in the community Dec 4 to raise awareness of the needs of the homeless and to raise financial support for ministries that help persons who are homeless by spending Dec 4 on the streets. Gifts contributed in three important ways One third went to the Denver Rescue Mission, One third went to the Love INC clearinghouse who refers our homeless to 22 different shelters in the community, One third will go toward the efforts that address homelessness in the SW Metro Area served by Love INC. We will bring churchs, city and county governments and non-profit efforts together to explore and address the homeless.
Doug recapped his experience in the St. Luke's Chronicle. You can read his article on page 3 at: http://stlukeshr.com/chronicle/Chronicle2009Dec2010Jan.pdf
